BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS—July 20, 2022: The Gongloe Global Movement, a pro-democracy movement in support of Counselor Tiawan Saye Gongloe’s election as the next President of Liberia, categorically condemns the July 19, 2023 dastardly attacks by some seemingly paid thugs and hoodlums against the Standard-Bearer of the Liberian People’s Party (LPP) and other participants of the Anti-Corruption Campaign (ACC) in Monrovia, which resulted in at least two injuries.
The seemingly orchestrated attacks were unwarranted, because the organizers and participants of the ACC march had already sought and obtained a permit from the Justice Ministry and had even requested protection from the Liberia National Police to stage their anti-corruption march. Unfortunately, for whatever unexplained reasons, the police never turned out to perform its constitutional responsibility of protecting the Liberian people.
According to the press release, the July 19th attacks, which occurred with just seven days to Bloody 26, the first anniversary of the July 26, 2022 brutal attacks by the so-called CDC Council of Patriots against militant student leaders of the Student Unification Party (SUP) of the University of Liberia, in which student Christopher Walter Sisulu Sivili almost lost his life, was apparently designed by its perpetrators this time as an intimidating tactic against the Liberian People’s Party and its leaders as a desperate attempt to deter them from candidly speaking truth to power, but the Movement maintained that its political leader, Counselor Tiawan Saye Gongloe will not be intimidated into a cowardly reticence.
It seems that those whose incompetence and ineptitude, coupled with their obsession with pervasive corruption have resulted in the massive sufferings of the Liberian people, don’t want to hear the truth about their disastrous stewardship, the release noted, adding that as a result, the villains of corruption have now resorted to planting nefarious agents at opposition gatherings to unleash more savageries on peace-loving Liberians.
Meanwhile, GGM is calling on the George Weah regime to investigate the heinous July 19th attacks against the Standard-Bearer, other officials of LPP as well as all other participants of the Anti-Corruption march and bring the thugs to justice. GGM is also calling on the Liberian National Police to fully protect all Liberians, irrespective of their political views.
