The Rising Stars Boxing Bonanza to raise funds for Baby Metha has been rescheduled from tomorrow to 9 June.
The fundraising gala’s venue has also changed from the NamPower Convention Centre to the Marigold Hotel in Windhoek.
Baby Metha (eight months) has been diafnosed with a severe medical condition and requires about N$500 000 to cover her medicals costs.
The AC Boxing Academy hopes to raise the funds through the bonanza, which sees African Boxing Union super featherweight champion Flaim ‘Special One’ Nangolo facing experienced journeyman Tinashe Mwadziwana from Zimbabwe in a non-title super featherweight fight over 10 rounds.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this change,” AC founder Immanuel Moses says.
“We understand the importance of this gala in supporting Baby Metha’s medical expenses, and we greatly appreciate your continued support. The new date and venue will provide us with a wonderful setting to come together and make a difference in Baby Metha’s life.
“Thank you for your understanding, and flexibility regarding these changes,” he says.
Baby Metha has suffered a devastating brain injury, Moses says.
“As of late, medical reports show she has very little brain tissue left. There has unfortunately been little prospect of improvement of her condition. As a result, she needs urgent medical care to better her condition and successfully get her the medication she needs,” he says.
The event will see a total of nine fights.
The main supporting bout will feature two foreign female fighters, with Kudakwashe Chiwanddira of Zimbabwe taking on Thanchanok Pha-man of Thailand, while the rest of the fights will feature Namibian boxers.
Hedison Bulelo, who takes on Usko Rehabeam in a catchweight fight over six rounds, was bombastic yesterday, saying he would give Rehabeam a boxing lesson, while the reserved Rehabeam took it all in his stride.
In other fights, Alfeus ‘Mosquito’ Shaanika will take on Phill Desosa in a six-round welterweight fight; Hafeni Ngesheya will take on David Shinuna for the national junior lightweight title over 10 rounds, Ruan Rispel will face Shikulo Linekela in a lightweight fight over four rounds, Robert Ndalelwa takes on David Johannes in a junior welterweight fight over four rounds, and Andreas Johannes takes on Abel Joseph in a lightweight fight over four rounds.
Featherweight Petrus Salomo will also be in action, but his opponent must still be announced.
