Christina Applegate says SAGs likely to be her ‘last awards show as an actor’ amid MS battle

Christina Applegate believes the upcoming Screen Actors Guild Awards will be her final awards show as her battle with multiple sclerosis (MS) continues to wreak havoc on her health.

“It’s my last awards show as an actor probably, so it’s kind of a big deal,” the 51-year-old told LA Times of the SAG Awards, taking place on Feb. 27.

“Right now, I couldn’t imagine getting up at 5 a.m. and spending 12 to 14 hours on a set; I don’t have that in me at this moment.”

The “Dead To Me” actress was diagnosed with MS in early 2021 and remained open about how the condition — which affects the brain and nerves — forced her to pump the brakes on her career.

One of the many changes Applegate is forced to implement is putting her acting career on the back-burner, which subsequently means not attending awards shows.

Her MS diagnosis came in tandem with the third and final season of Netflix’s “Dead To Me” — for which she received a SAG nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series.

Applegate admitted that she was “a wreck every day” during her struggle at the time, but noted that “most of that wreck would take place in my trailer by myself.”

“There were times I’d break down on set and be like, ‘I can’t, we have to take a break, I need a half-hour,’ and everyone was so loving that it was OK,” she added, noting how “incredible” the cast and crew was at accommodating her needs.

Applegate plays Jen Harding in the Netflix series. The nod marks her sixth SAG nomination.

While she’s gearing up to say goodbye to awards ceremonies, Applegate did say she’s looking forward to exploring voiceover work.

The “Anchorman” star said she’s currently “doing a s–t ton of voice-overs to make some cash to make sure that my daughter’s fed and we’re homed.”

It comes as Applegate said “Dead To Me” could be her last acting job.

“Jen Harding is the one, who — who knows, quite possibly the last one I’ll play,” the “Married … with Children” alum told Variety in November.

“With my disease, I don’t know how capable I am. But this was a gift. This was a gift to me.”

Also in November, Applegate came forward about some of the complications she’s experienced as a result of her MS, including gaining 40 pounds.

She also said she struggles to “walk without a cane” as a result of the condition.
