Dave Bautista wonders if he’s too ‘unattractive’ for rom-coms

Dave Bautista is a romantic at heart.

The former WWE wrestler-turned-actor would love to star in a good ol’ rom-com — even if he doesn’t fit the mold.

“I know I’m not your typical rom-com lead,” Bautista, 54, admitted to Page Six exclusively Monday at the premiere of his latest flick, “Knock at the Cabin,” at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City.

“I’m a little rough around the edges. But I always, you know, I look in the mirror and I say, I ask myself, ‘Am I that unattractive? Is there something that unappealing about me that excludes me from these parts?'” he continued.

“I don’t know. It’s just never come my way. I’ve never had an offer to do a rom-com. I still have high hopes. I’ll just keep searching.”

Before finding fame on the big screen and in the wrestling ring, Bautista worked as a bouncer for many years.

“I bounced all of my 20s up until I was 30 years [old]. I started bouncing when I was 17, and there was always some drunk a–hole who wanted to test me,” he explained with a laugh.

“And then I went into wrestling, where it was really just [a] toxic environment where I was again. I always felt like [I was in a] bad environment,” the actor continued. “And I always felt like I had to posture up, and it was a relief that I never had to do that anymore.”

But when he is confronted by someone now, the “Guardians of the Galaxy” star shared, “I’d rather handle it verbally. I’d always rather go there. And I’m kind of proud that I’ve turned into that guy, because when I was younger, I wasn’t that guy.”

In the creepy M. Night Shyamalan-directed thriller “Knock at the Cabin,” Bautista plays a mild-mannered schoolteacher who, as part of a quartet of strangers, demands a couple make an unthinkable choice to avert the apocalypse.

The movie’s other stars Jonathan Groff, Ben Aldridge, Abby Quinn and Nikki Amuka-Bird also attended the premiere. Rupert Grint was absent due to a positive COVID-19 test, but he jokingly asked Shyamalan to tell the audience they should get “as drunk as possible” at the afterparty.
