Dick Van Dyke, 97, shows off injuries in first pics since car crash

Dick Van Dyke is on the mend after sustaining minor injuries in a car crash earlier this month.

The 97-year-old beamed while carpooling with his 51-year-old wife, Arlene Silver, in the first pics since his car accident obtained by the DailyMail.

Despite his chipper demeanor, the actor sported stitches on his chin. However, he noted that he was almost fully recovered.

“I’m fine, just sore all over,” he told paps on Friday. “The airbags did not deploy so I just had a face plant right in the steering wheel and it just made me a little dumber.”

He then playfully joked that he was “doing okay” because he was 97 and all of his “friends are dead.”

For his outing, the entertainer sported a black and gray long-sleeved shirt which he paired with gray jeans, black shoes and his wedding band.

On March 15, TMZ reported that Van Dyke was driving his Lexus LS 500 in Malibu, Calif. when rainy weather conditions caused his vehicle to slide before smashing into a gate.

Once police arrived at the scene, they found Van Dyke behind the wheel of his car, where he was later treated by paramedics for his minor injuries.

At the time, the “Mary Poppins” star was left with a bloody mouth and nose, as well as a possible concussion.

However, he reportedly declined an offer to go to a local hospital and instead went home with a friend who came to pick him up.

Though the outlet reported that officers said drugs and alcohol were not involved in Van Dyke’s crash, authorities submitted documents to the DMV requesting that the film and TV star retake his driving test, seemingly due to his age.

Nearly 10 years ago, Van Dyke walked away uninjured after his Jaguar caught on fire while he was driving on a Los Angeles freeway.

At the time, officers said witnesses reported the flames and said that an elderly man was leaning over behind the wheel of the fiery car.

Onlooker Jason Pennington assisted Van Dyke out of the burning vehicle.

“I’m all ‘you gotta get out, you gotta get out’ and he goes, ‘I’m okay, I’m okay,” Pennington told CBS Los Angeles. “So, I just pulled him really hard.”

After the August 2013 crash, Van Dyke tweeted a photo of his burnt vehicle, joking, “Used Jag for sale REAL CHEAP!!”
