Drew Barrymore Blames Her Singleness on Her “Honesty” and Desire to “Live in a Reality”

Drew Barrymore got real about her singleness during today’s broadcast of The Drew Barrymore Show. The talk show host met with author Jay Shetty and comedian Phoebe Robinson to chat about self-help and romance, and spilled in her signature style.

While introducing Robinson to the stage, Barrymore confessed, “I’ve been single for seven years,” before complimenting a novel that Robinson recently published under her imprint. This came as a surprise to none as the host has always been candid about her dating life on the show, revealing the struggles she faced following her divorce and her current experiences dating in the modern age.

Last month, Barrymore shared that she has been dating someone from her past; however, the current state of their relationship is unknown since she’s only shared a few vague updates about her dating life. Earlier this week, she joked with actor Gabrielle Union about surfing through Zillow while on a date.

Was it the same person? Who knows? But Barrymore also confessed that she has been waiting for the mentioned person to kiss her. One month in and still no first smooch? What is this, Never Been Kissed

For those truly invested in her romantic endeavors, Barrymore made a few revelations during today’s episode, which was mainly focused on love and healthy relationships. While chatting with Robinson and Shetty about initiating break-ups and recognizing red flags in a relationship, Barrymore pondered whether she could be straightforward with a date.

The host envisioned herself telling a potential lover, “I’m someone who’s very self-aware and really works on myself. I like to not sweep things under the rug, live in a bubble, or be delusional. I’m really honest and I like and appreciate living in a reality.”

Toward the end of the episode, the trio played a game where they associated statements with red, yellow or green flags. At one point, Barrymore suggested a scenario where a couple went on a date night and had nothing to talk about. The three all raised their red flag. Barrymore gave some dating advice for the situation, telling her audience to “show up at the date.”

She said, “Do not watch each other get ready, take the boring monotonous drive with each other, and then arrive at the restaurant and be like ‘Well, now we have nothing to say.’ Show up at the restaurant fresh and new.”
