Joy Behar Blames Casey Anthony for End of Her HLN Talk Show on ‘The View’: “She’s a Little Liar”

Plenty of people won’t be tuning into Peacock‘s new Casey Anthony documentary for their own reasons, but Joy Behar says she’s skipping out on the true crime series over some professional beef from years ago. Behar revealed on today’s episode of The View that she’s boycotting Casey Anthony: Where the Truth Lies because she blames Anthony for the cancellation of her talk show.

During a discussion about the ethics of the docuseries — which comes over a decade after Anthony was found not guilty in the murder of her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee — Behar took a trip down memory lane, reminding her co-hosts that while the country was glued to their TV screens watching the trial, she was hosting a “very good” talk show that met an untimely demise.

“I have no interest in [Anthony], but years ago I had a show on HLN and it was a really good show ’cause I interviewed all sorts of [people]: Diane Keaton, Catherine Deneuve and Bill Murray, and it was a wonderful show,” Behar said.

Her show, Say Anything!, aired on HLN in 2009 and ran for two seasons on the network before switching to Current TV for its third and final season. Behar mourned the end of her show, which was axed at HLN in 2011, the same year as Anthony’s trial.

“Casey Anthony became the focal point of that network, and that was the end of my show,” Behar told The View, adding, “For some reason, crime and a story like this really grabs people’s attention. It does not grab my attention. I can’t stand her either.”

Whoopi Goldberg pointed out that Behar had been on the same network as Nancy Grace, who hosted a titular news show on the network for years and heavily covered Anthony’s 2011 trial. Behar replied, “I was … that’s what happened, and I could not stand to talk about her.”

After blasting Anthony as “a little liar,” Behar doubled down, raising her eyebrows and repeating plainly, “she’s a liar.”

Earlier in the episode, Behar’s co-host Ana Navarro said she “can’t stand” Anthony, telling the panel she can’t even bear to look at her face or hear her voice.

“If people wanna watch that, that’s up to them. If I’m gonna watch a documentary, it’ll be about whales and lemmings and iguanas in the Galapagos Islands. I think it’s incredibly offensive,” she said.

The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC. Casey Anthony: Where the Truth Lies is now streaming on Peacock.
