Kelly Stafford, the wife of Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, apologized Wednesday to an Instagram user after resorting to “name-calling” in an online exchange.
“He [Stafford] could have his pick of women so just a little bit of makeup. If you weren’t married you’d have it on,” the message read, to which Kelly responded in an Instagram Story, “A typical misogynistic pig. Happy holidays!”
Kelly, who shares four children with last year’s Super Bowl champ, 34, walked back on her remarks hours later and apologized to the critic.
“I resorted to name calling which I truly do not like,” Kelly expressed in a separate Instagram Story. “So I apologize to [the user], but maybe you should think about if someone said that to your wife or daughters … I’m sure you would be wildly upset.
“I wasn’t upset because if you listened to my podcast yesterday, you know I don’t pull confidence from how I look … it’s part of the reason I wear makeup seldomly. It’s a big reason I love my thirties because I am finally comfortable in my skin. I know what I stand for and my values and knowing who I am is what gives me confidence.”
Kelly concluded her message by asking the individual in question to accept her apology, but to also note “how upset you would be if the tables were turned.”
“Name calling is not something I am fond of, so please accept my apology, but understand how upset you would be if the tables were turned,” she shared.
In the wake of the exchange, some of Kelly’s fans took to Instagram, where they thanked the mother of four for always keeping it real.
“Thank you for showing so many people that you don’t have to wear make-up or comply with others’ perceptions of beauty to be beautiful! You’re an amazing role model for so many women, young women & people in general,” one fan remarked, while another expressed, “You are beautiful inside & out. You are raising strong women to feel confident all on their own.”
College sweethearts, Kelly has been married to Stafford since 2015, and together, they share four daughters: 5-year-old twins Chandler and Sawyer, Hunter, 4, and 2-year-old Tyler.
