Pete Alonso sets another Mets mark with 40th home run

Pete Alonso’s record-setting Mets season isn’t over yet.

The Mets slugger launched a three-run homer against the Marlins in the fourth inning on Tuesday night at Citi Field for his 40th dinger of the season. He’s the only player in franchise history to have two 40-homer seasons.

Alonso’s latest longball sailed 388 feet with an exit velocity of 100.3 MPH and cut the Marlins’ lead to 4-3 at the time. His first 40-homer season came in his rookie year of 2019 when Alonso set the single-season franchise mark with 53.

On Saturday, the first baseman smacked a two-run shot against the Athletics, breaking the franchise single-season mark for RBIs. He’s now up to 131 on the year.

“It’s a huge honor,” Alonso said after the 13-4 beatdown of Oakland. “But I wouldn’t be in this position without my teammates. All year they have been putting together unbelievable at-bats. I feel blessed and honored to have the record, but without them I wouldn’t have got it done.”
