In addition to being an acclaimed actress, Reese Witherspoon is also a proud parent.
The Oscar, Golden Globe, Emmy, Critics’ Choice and Screen Actors Guild winner shares two children with her first husband, actor Ryan Phillippe, and one with her second husband, talent agent Jim Toth.
Witherspoon and Phillippe met at her 21st birthday party, where she told him, “I think you’re my birthday present.”
The movie stars got engaged in 1998 and co-starred in “Cruel Intentions” in 1999. Later that year, they said “I do.”
In 2002, Phillippe revealed the pair were in couple’s therapy, but they ultimately separated in 2006. Their divorce was finalized in 2008.
Witherspoon moved on with Toth, whom she married in 2011 at her California ranch after dating for about a year.
But in March 2023, two days after her birthday and two days shy of the duo’s 12th wedding anniversary, they announced they were divorcing.

Ava Elizabeth Phillippe
Witherspoon’s eldest child, daughter Ava Elizabeth Phillippe, was born in September 1999 when the “Legally Blonde” star was 23 years old.
While the rest of the world thinks Ava is the spitting image of her famous mother, it turns out the two don’t necessarily agree.
“She and I don’t see [the resemblance] that much,” the actress said during an October 2022 “Today” show interview after co-host Jenna Bush Hager referred to the mother-daughter duo as “twins.”
Ava opened up about her sexual orientation in January 2022, saying she has no gender preference when it comes to her dating life.
“I’m attracted to… people!” she shared in an Instagram Story Q&A. “(Gender is whatever).”
At the time, the University of California, Berkeley student was dating her college boyfriend, Owen Mahoney, whom fans thought resembled her famous father.
Deacon Reese Phillippe
Witherspoon and Ryan welcomed son Deacon Reese Phillippe in October 2003.
While pursuing a career in music, he made his acting debut in Netflix’s “Never Have I Ever” Season 3 in August 2022.
Like with his sister, Deacon’s parents have remained friendly while co-parenting, as they’ve attended birthday parties and high school graduations together.
Tennessee James Toth
The “Walk the Line” star shares only one kid with Toth, son Tennessee James Toth, who was born in September 2012.
When the couple separated, they vowed to make Tennessee their “biggest priority.”
Having three children far apart in age, Witherspoon shared her approach to parenting when she appeared on “Today” in October 2022.
“You establish a different relationship,” the “Sweet Home Alabama” star told Bush Hager and Hoda Kotb.
“First of all, you’re managing them a lot when they’re little, and it’s very physical,” she explained. “And then it’s more emotional support. And suggestions. Not telling them what to do when they get a little bit older.”
The actress made sure to emphasize the importance of nurturing “your adult relationship with your children,” which she insisted requires giving them “respect and space to become who they are, not who you want them to be.”
