Who Is Henry in ‘The Last of Us’? Meet Lamar Johnson

The Last of Us, you’ve done it again. Following Anna Torv, Nick Offerman, and Murray Bartlett, Melanie Lynskey has now officially joined this show’s ever-growing list of stellar secondary characters played by beloved actors.

Lynskey plays Kathleen, the head of a revolutionary group that overtook the military in Kansas City. We’ve already covered who Kathleen is if she’s in the game. But there’s one question about this newbie that we haven’t touched yet: Who is Henry, the person Kathleen is so adamant about capturing?

Who Is Henry in The Last of Us Cast on HBO?

We haven’t officially met Henry yet on The Last of Us show, but if you’re up to date on your trailers, you’ve already seen this actor. Henry is played by Lamar Johnson. Prior to this Sunday night HBO hit, Johnson starred as Steven Carter in the movie adaptation of The Hate U Give, Kofi Jones in Showtime’s Your Honor, and Match in X-Men: Dark Phoenix. He’s also set to star in Jesse Eisenberg and Adrien Brody’s upcoming thriller, Manodrome.

Johnson will be acting alongside Keivonn Montreal Woodard, who plays Henry’s little brother Sam. He’s the kid who points a gun at Joel (Pedro Pascal) at the end of Episode 4. The Last of Us will mark the young actor’s first major role. In the TV show, Sam is deaf just like Woodard.

Who is Henry in The Last of Us Game?

Fans of the game knew exactly who to expect the second Kathleen (Melanie Lynskey) said the name “Henry.” First off, this portion of the story takes place in Pittsburgh, not Kansas City. But Joel and Ellie meet Henry and his little bother Sam while trying to escape Pittsburgh, which is being run by a group of violent revolutionaries that overthrew FEDRA (Federal Disaster Response Agency). Despite his young age, Henry is a calculating survivor who will do anything to protect Sam.

In the game, Henry and Sam left the Hartford, Conn., quarantine zone with a group of survivors to look for supplies in Pittsburgh. Shortly after entering the city, the brothers were separated from this group and were forced to hide out in an office building near the hunters’ headquarters. When they first meet Joel and Ellie, both duos initially attack each other. But once they calm down and learn each other’s plight, they agree to team up and once they realize they’re all searching for the Fireflies.

Without spoiling anything, that’s not the story The Last of Us show follows. Because the inner-workings of the Pittsburgh hunters are never explored, we have no idea who their leaders want to capture aside from Joel. Kathleen’s beef with Henry is going to have to stay a mystery until Episode 5.
