Woman Crush Wednesday: Grace Byers Shines Bright in ‘Harlem’

Happy February, everybody! Valentine’s Day isn’t until next week, but that doesn’t mean it’s too soon to spread the love as we celebrate the laudable ladies paving the way in all of your favorite new titles streaming now. With today’s Woman Crush Wednesday, we seek to do just that as we shout out an amazing actress who has been killing it on screens big and small for eight years now, and who is sure to continue to do so in the years to come. So, without further ado, give it up for your first WCW of the month, the brilliant Grace Byers!

WHO’S THAT GAL: Grace Byers

WHY WE’RE CRUSHING: Byers plays Quinn Joseph in Harlem, a Prime Video original title that premiered its second season on the platform last Friday, February 3. The comedy series picks up with our four Harlem-based best girlfriends as they continue to pursue their ambitions, love lives, and careers in style. Camille (Meagan Good) attempts to put the pieces of her life back together after blowing up her career and experiencing romantic strife in Season 1.

At the same time, Tye (Jerrie Johnson) faces forward as she ponders what her future has in store, Quinn (Byers) embarks on a quest of self-discovery, and Angie (Shoniqua Shandai) finds her career heading a promising new direction. Together, the 30-somethings will take on the next phase of their lives, all while having each other’s backs and making magnificent memories along the way. See them all work their magic in the sophomore season of this superb series right now, only on Prime Video.

WHERE YOU’VE SEEN HER BEFORE: Byers’ professional onscreen career began with a bang in 2015, when she earned the recurring role of Anika Calhoun in Emmy-nominated Fox musical drama TV series Empire. And while her time on Empire ended in 2018, she immediately opened new doors and built up her filmography that same year with her feature film debut as Kate in crime-thriller Bent, as well as with the recurring TV role of Reeva Payge on Fox superhero series The Gifted.

From there, she only continued to put in the work to deliver additional exceptional performances in shows like BET anthology Tales and Netflix family program Bookmarks, as well as in movies like 2020 sci-fi short film The Last Starship and 2022 slasher-comedy The Blackening. With all of this under her belt in less than a decade, we have no doubt that Byers has many more exciting things in store for the future can’t wait to see all that she pursues and accomplishes in the years ahead.

WHERE YOU’LL SEE HER AGAIN: Luckily, you won’t have to wait too much longer to see more from Byers since she already has two new projects confirmed to come out within the next year or two. Keep an eye out for the actress as series regular Katherine “Boz” Bosworth in upcoming sci-fi drama series Phoenix, as well as in an undisclosed role in Nicolas Cage and Ashley Greene-led action crime-comedy film The Retirement Plan.
