Joy Behar Offends Whoopi Goldberg After Revealing She Was “Happy” When She Got Fired From ‘The View’

Joy Behar may have accidentally said a little too much during today’s episode of The View. While speaking about the classic “work BFF,” the comedian revealed she was “happy” when she got fired from the show in 2013 because she no longer had any friends in the workplace — causing her fellow co-host Whoopi Goldberg to raise her eyebrows.

Goldberg sparked the convo as she talked about a survey that discovered that two in 10 U.S. employees say they have one “work best friend,” with the number presumably decreasing as a result of remote work.

“I always have friends where I work,” Behar chimed in. “And if I don’t have friends at the job, I will not keep the job.”

She added, “When I was fired the last time from this show, people said to me, ‘Were you OK with that?’ And my answer was, ‘I was happy.’ Because all my friends had left already. So there was no reason to stay anymore.”

The host’s admission prompted a skeptical Goldberg to ask, “Really… All your friends had left you?”

However, Behar stuck to her guns. In a poor effort to save herself, she told Goldberg, who joined the show six years before she was fired, “You had just come on. And my backstage friends had left.”

While Behar continued to double down on her statements, saying, “I don’t like to work when I don’t have friends. I always have friends at work. There’s no other reason to go to work,” an offended Goldberg quivered her lip and (through fake tears) joked, “It’s OK darlin’, I’m cool.”

Later on, Goldberg clarified that she and Behar have “been friends a long time” and that she was only “teasing” the comedian about being offended.

“She’s teasing me,” Behar reiterated. “Because you are not the backstage friends. I was talking about backstage friends.”

With one last playful eye roll, Goldberg added, “I know. I know.”

The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
