Kelly Ripa Suffers “Wardrobe Emergency” on ‘Live’: “I Almost Did Not Walk out Here!”

It might be time for Kelly Ripa to retire the dress she sported on Wednesday morning’s (May 31) episode of Live with Kelly and Mark. If our memory serves us correctly, it was the second time she’s suffered a wardrobe oopsie in the hot pink number.

After welcoming the audience to their show, Ripa told her husband/co-host Mark Consuelos, “I had a small wardrobe emergency backstage! It was very exciting.”

She added, “I almost did not walk out here!” to which he replied, “I was wondering how that was going to go.”

The longtime Live host joked that she heard him “clawing at the door” while he was figuring out how he was going to “stretch” if he had to come out solo.

“I got drunk with power. It’s gonna be me out here. It could turn into anything. It could be anything out here,” Consuelos — who replaced Ryan Seacrest as Ripa’s co-host in April — said of the hypothetical situation. “Talking sports. That’s it, just sports.”

Fortunately, she made it out in time and instead of a long-winded conversation about the NBA Finals, we got a 15-minute block dedicated solely to Scandoval — the Vanderpump Rules drama that’s taken the media by storm.

However, this wasn’t the first time the dress has tried to take down Ripa while she was filming.

Back during Consuelos’ first week on the job, the married couple of more than 25 years — who share three children — took a jive lesson from Dancing with the Stars pros Val Chmerkovskiy and Jenna Johnson Chmerkovskiy.

When Consuelos dipped his wife over his bent knee, she jumped back up when she realized that her dress might have torn.

“Did my entire back of my dress rip open?” she asked, before quipping, “OK, fine. It’s just a breakaway dress.”

While her husband revealed it ripped “just a little bit,” Jenna assured the Live Wire: Long-Winded Short Stories author that wardrobe malfunctions are “what dance is all about” — helping to inspire the couple to forge on in their lesson.
