Lions’ rookie receiver Jameson Williams set for NFL debut after torn ACL: ‘Superstar’

Week 13 of the NFL season will feature the long-awaited debut of a former Crimson Tide standout.

Williams suffered a torn ACL while playing in the national championship game in January. Prior to the injury, he caught 79 passes for 1,572 yards and 15 touchdowns last season for Alabama.

The Lions traded up 20 spots in last April’s NFL draft to select the St. Louis native with the 12th overall pick.

Detroit could use the help, too. All season the Lions have dealt with wide receiver injuries, with Amon-Ra St. Brown, D.J. Chark and Josh Reynolds all having missed at least one game along with Williams being out until now.

“I think we’re all excited [for Williams’ debut],” Chark told reporters. “The excitement that you guys feel that we feel, it’s real. I definitely believe that he’s a superstar, so anything I can do to help a guy like that, I’m here. He knows that, he knows that with all the receivers in the room. He’s getting back into practicing, which is a huge step, trust me I understand. So, as soon as he’s on the field, that’s gonna be great for all of us. We all benefit from that, this team benefits from that. And the future, he’s got a bright future.”
