Pakistan accepts Canada’s request to resettle 6,000 Afghan refugees

According to reports, Pakistan and Canada have agreed to transfer 6,000 Afghan refugees to Canada.

Pakistani authorities announced on Wednesday that these Afghan refugees will be transferred to Canada by the end of this year.

Under the devised plan, Canada will cover the transfer costs and fines for migrants who have remained in Pakistan after the expiration of their visas.

It should be noted that approximately 6,000 Afghan migrants awaiting relocation to Canada are currently residing in Pakistan.

According to Pakistani officials, Canada pays $30 per person for the 6,000 Afghan migrants through its embassy in Pakistan.

Previously, Canada had also announced an agreement with the United Arab Emirates to facilitate the transfer of 1,000 Afghan refugees to Canada.

After the resurgence of the Taliban, thousands of Afghan citizens intending to migrate to Canada have sought refuge in Pakistan, Tajikistan, and the United Arab Emirates.

Meanwhile, after the expiry of their visas in Pakistan, Afghan migrants must pay a fine of $800 to the country.

This comes as Sean Fraser, Canada’s Minister of Immigration, had committed to settling around 40,000 Afghan refugees in Canada by the end of 2023.
