President Vladimir Putin praised the Russian army and security forces for preventing the outbreak of ‘civil war’ following the Wagner Group fighters’ alleged coup d’état attempt.
Vladimir Putin on Tuesday, June 27, in his speech said that 2500 national guards and security forces in the Kremlin compound saved Russia from witnessing chaos and disorder.
“You defended the constitutional order, life, security and freedom of Russian citizens. Indeed, you saved our country from chaos and stopped a civil war,” Vladimir Putin said.
Putin further added, “You acted quite well and proved your loyalty to the Russian people during these difficult times. You showed your responsibility for the fate of the motherland and its future.”
Putin told soldiers they acted “clearly and consistently” and managed to avert a larger conflict and thanked the military, as well as the law enforcement for their “courage, valor and loyalty to the people of Russia.”
The Russian leaders’ praising speech about the security forces was released as Alexander Lukashenko, the Belarusian President confirmed the entrance of Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of state-backed mercenary company Wagner Group to Belarus.
Previously, Russian media reported that Moscow had dropped the criminal case against the Wagner Group because “participants had stopped taking actions directly aimed at committing crimes”.
As per the agreement reached on Tuesday evening, Kremlin said that Wagner Group fighters would not be prosecuted.
Meanwhile, Yevgeny Prigozhin has said that his forces retreated from Rostov at the request of the Belarusian President and he has moved to Belarus.
