Ukraine Drone Attack on Crimea Caused ‘Detonation of Ammunition Depot’: Authorities

A Ukrainian drone attack on Moscow-annexed Crimea resulted in the ‘detonation’ of an ammunition depot on Saturday, according to the Moscow-installed peninsula leader.

Amid the incident, the authorities ordered the evacuation of people living within five Kilometers of the attack and halted train operations.

“As a result of an enemy drone on the Krasnogvardeisky district, there was a detonation at an ammunition depot,” official Sergei Aksyonov said on Telegram.

“A decision was taken to evacuate people (living) within five kilometres” of the zone, he said, adding that: “To minimize risks, it was also decided to halt rail traffic on Crimean railways.”

This was the second attack within five days; the first was the aerial attack on a bridge linking Crimea to Russia, which killed two people.

Attacks have risen recently, though, after Kyiv started a counteroffensive to recapture territory lost to Moscow and declared its intention to retake Crimea.

Earlier this week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said, “The goal is to return all of Crimea because it is our sovereign state, and our sovereign territory is an integral part of our state,” AFP reported.
