Daniel Andrews is expected to step down as Victorian premier after nine years in power.
The premier is expected to make the announcement on Tuesday afternoon at a snap press conference organised with just 40 minutes’ notice.
A cabinet minister, a Labor factional source and another MP told The Age on the condition of anonymity that the premier was stepping down. Other cabinet ministers are not taking calls.
Andrews assumed office in December 2014 and led the Victorian Labor Party to a third term of government at last year’s November state election.
