Police searching for three men after daylight Sydney shooting

Police are on the hunt for three men seen fleeing a suburb in Sydney’s west after another man in his twenties was shot in a public laneway.

Bullet casings, specks of blood and an intact bullet littered the pavement under an underpass in Bidwill, north of Mount Druitt, after the daylight attack about 2pm on Sunday.

The injured man ran about 100 metres to a home on Carlisle Avenue, where occupants raised the alarm and called an ambulance. Other residents nearby also hailed police after hearing three gunshots.

“I was hanging my daughter’s bedsheets out and all of a sudden just heard three shots and ran inside,” Bidwill resident Chantelle Willis-Hyek told Nine News.

The victim of the shooting has serious injuries. He was taken to Westmead Hospital for emergency surgery.

Officers from Mount Druitt Police Area Command set up multiple crime scenes spanning a 300-metre area of interest, which were scrutinised by forensic police on Sunday afternoon.

Witnesses heard yelling after the gunshots and saw three men running away from the scene through a laneway near a local supermarket close to the site of the attack.

Police are yet to speak to the victim as he undergoes treatment. The motive for the shooting is unclear.

Investigators have appealed to the public for any additional information about the attack.
