iciHaiti - Environment : 20 young female architects trained in para-cyclonic construction
As part of the implementation of the project "Implementation measures for adaptation to climate change and disaster risk reduction of school infrastructure in Haiti" funded by the Adaptation Fund, UNESCO carried out three days training workshop for 20 young female architects, engineers and students in civil engineering and architecture on the para-cyclonic design of individual houses.
It is an educational effort to enable young girls to acquire knowledge, develop skills, exchange ideas and build capacity.
Now, these young architects have a better understanding of the mapping of the threat of hurricanes in Haiti, of the dangerous phenomena linked to major climatic hazards, of its consequences, of the basics of design, construction as well as para-cyclonic dimensioning calculations, requirements for the quality of materials and roof constructions.
