Wednesday, July 19, 2024 (HOL) - Colonel Jimcaale Jaamac Takar,self-recognized as the commander of the elite Danab forces, who is also at war with Puntland's President, Siciid Deni, showcased a military display on the outskirts of Garowe city today, Wednesday.
Colonel Jimale has provided training to clan militias that joined him days after the fighting that took place in Garowe last month.
In a speech to the troops, he stated his opposition to the opening of the constitution, saying President Deni is a candidate and therefore does not have the right to oversee the election or opening the constitution.
The officer said they would fight if there was an attempt to open the constitution and hinted that he would take a step similar to the one he had previously taken.
"We will fight against opening Puntland's constitution, and we will not accept it. We will not accept anything less than what we have fought for and rejected and for which our people died," said Jimcaale, giving a brief speech to his troops.
This military display and provocative speeches are emerging at a time when it is expected that the Puntland parliament will convene and vote on the items changed in the constitution.
This matter also comes at a time when the Puntland Elders are involved in finding a solution to the ongoing disputes over election issues.
