President of US Bishops Encourages German Catholics to Be Faithful to the Pope

Tim Daniels

Following the decisions taken by the so-called German Synod, between March 9 and 11, the leader of the American Bishops, Archbishop Timothy Broglio, appealed to German Catholics to stay faithful to the Pope. “The German Catholic faithful will follow the teachings of the Bishop of Rome and his Successors, and will abstain from allowing themselves to be influenced by the Synodal Councils or any other things that the Pope has rejected,” he said to Die-Tagespost.

He also mentioned to the same source that “today’s German Catholics are free to obey Pope Francis and remain in the Church. The brilliance of the truth must be preserved. Those that do not do so, he said, remain outside the Church.

Finally, Archbishop Broglio highlighted the ecumenical work of Vatican Council II in its intention to unite all Christians and so he wondered: “Why would someone want to take a step backwards and separate himself from the Catholic Church? Will we have to wait another fifteen years for attempts at reunification? It would certainly be better to obey and avoid a new wound in the Catholic Church.”
