As of 5:00 AM AST, the storm’s center was positioned at latitude 17.1 North and longitude 55.9 West, approximately 480 miles east of the Northern Leeward Islands.
Philippe’s maximum sustained winds reached 50 mph, with slight strengthening expected over the coming days, potentially reaching hurricane status next week.
While there are currently no coastal warnings in effect, residents in the Northern Leeward Islands, Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico should monitor the storm’s progress, as life-threatening surf and rip current conditions remain a concern.
Tropical Storm Rina, on the other hand, maintains its current intensity with maximum sustained winds of 50 mph.
Located about 905 miles east-northeast of the Northern Leeward Islands, Rina is moving at 10 mph in a west-northwest direction.
It is projected to gradually weaken over the weekend. No coastal warnings or watches are currently in effect for Rina, and it poses no immediate threat to land.
