Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone's love story began during the shoot of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela (2013). The power couple of Bollywood met during the production of SLB's film, and the rest is history. But what if we tell you that Deepika Padukone wasn't the original choice for Leela's character? Ranveer was supposed to be paired in the Romeo and Juliet film adaptation with some other actress, and she backed out from the film one week before the production.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali had signed another actress, a popular leading lady opposite Ranveer Singh for his film, and she was none other than Kareena Kapoor Khan. Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone graced the first episode of Karan Johar's popular chat show, Koffee With Karan Season 8. In the first episode, aired on Thursday midnight, Ranveer shared a surprising fact about the film, that brought them together. While interacting with Karan, Ranveer revealed that Kareena was supposed to do the film, but she took an exit from the film. Ranveer said, "Ram-Leela was supposed to happen with myself and Kareena Kapoor in the lead. The set was ready. One week before roll, for some reason, Kareena had to exit the film."

Ranveer further revealed that he recommended Deepika's name to Sanjay and his team after getting floored by Deepika's performance in Cocktail. "Then we were sitting and wondering who to cast. And Cocktail had just happened (released). So there was a discussion with Mr Bhansali, all the ADs and myself in the office, about who should we take. And I was batting for team Deepika, because I just saw Cocktail, and she got cast."
That's a big revelation made on KWK 8. Ranveer and Deepika gave a perfect start to the chat show, and DeepVeer fans can thank their stars, as Deepika ended up doing Ram-Leela. Released in 2013, Ram-Leela was a blockbuster at the box office. The chemistry of Ranveer-Deepika was praised by moviegoers and was regarded as the main reason behind the film's success. Koffee With Karan 8 is currently streaming on Disney+Hotstar.
