Leposa deputy president charged

Mohalenyane Phakela

INFIGHTING in the Lesotho Police Staff Association (LEPOSA)’s national executive committee (NEC)  has now spilled into the courts. This after  LEPOSA deputy president, Inspector Teboho Molumo, was charged by the Maseru Magistrates’ Court for endangering the life of the organisation’s secretary general, Insp ‘Makatleho Mphetho, after he allegedly pointed a  firearm  at her.

Insp Molumo appeared before Magistrate ‘Makopano Rant?o who released him on free bail  till 17 February 2023 when he returns to court.

According to the charge sheet, Insp Molumo pointed a gun at Insp Mphetho on 25 November 2022, threatening to kill her.

“The said accused (Molumo) did wrongfully, unlawfully and intentionally threaten danger or death to one Insp Makatleho Mphetho and others and pointed a gun at them,” part of the indictment reads.

Magistrate Rant?o  ordered Insp Molumo  not  to interfere with Crown witnesses and police investigations, attend remands and stand trial to finality.

There is no love lost between Insp Molumo and Insp Mphetho whose rivalry in the LEPOSA  NEC has been apparent for some time.

The LEPOSA executive committee suspended Insp Molumo on 14 March 2022 for allegedly participating in the November 2021 events  which resulted in LEPOSA’s property being seized at the behest of Police Commissioner Holomo Molibeli and the  union’s bank accounts being frozen in January 2022.
