Best food van in Scotland revealed as fans gush over ‘one-stop shop for authentic meals’

STREETS AHEAD

STREET food is more popular than ever with markets and events seeking out the best in the business.

And an official list of the top foodie vans has now been compiled.

From Indian street food to traditional fish and chips, we are a nation of food lovers that embraces every cuisine.

And with everyone enjoying the glorious summer weather, more Scots are looking to eat al fresco while out and about in the sun.

In fact, searches for ‘food vans near me’ have increased by 22 per cent in the last three months alone.

Sam Ward, Managing Director at Vansdirect, says: “There’s no denying that the UK has an amazing food scene and restaurant culture. However, our research shows that food vans are not to be sniffed at when it comes to trying delicious, quality dishes – and not to mention photogenic food too."

New research, from Vansdirect, has now revealed the most instagrammable across the UK.

And coming in at number one in Scotland is Glasgow van Mrs Falafel.

One of the city's most recognisable street food businesses, it recently expanded opening a new base in an old police box at the Botanic Gardens, having started on Woodlands Road.

Their mobile van also travels to local events, like TRNSMT festival.

Regulars rave about the authentic Middle Eastern grub the firm serves up, including falafel wraps and lamb kofta.

Researchers said: "This food van is a one-stop shop for fresh, authentic Middle Eastern food.

"Delicious falafels and lamb koftas are served with a colourful array of sides and salads, from baba ghanoush to tabouleh."

One more Scottish venue makes it into the top 10, with wood-fired pizza van Dough Man's Land - set up by a pair of food obsessed brothers from Glasgow - on the list.

Heading to wedding, festivals and markets, the Italian cuisine experts are known for their toppings like Italian sausage and chilli as well as portobello mushroom and black olive.

The researchers added: "Glasgow’s second appearance on the list is the perfect spot for pizza lovers.

"A quaint kerbside food van, Dough Man’s Land serves delicious wood-fired pizza with a range of toppings."
