Escape to the Chateau’s Dick Strawbridge’s rarely-seen son shares snap with dad and brother Arthur as show is axed

DICK Strawbridge was all smiles with his two sons just hours before Escape to the Chateau was axed.

The popular programme was binned on Friday and won't be returning for its ninth series.

Dick and Angel Strawbridge have left fans devastated after they announced the beloved series would be ending.

Taking to Instagram on Thursday afternoon, Dick posed alongside his two sons James and Arthur, with the trio looking in high spirits.

Those smiles, however, may have turned into frowns as news broke earlier today of Escape to the Chateau being cancelled.

The show, which started in 2016, followed the couple as they bought a dilapidated 19th-century French chateau and began restoring it.

But after tirelessly working to bring the stunning property back to its former glory, they've called time on the series.

They announced the news to fans in their latest newsletter update, with the headline reading: "The Ninth and Final Series of Escape to the Chateau.”

In the update, the pair said: "We are delighted to announce our ninth series of Escape to the Chateau will be starting soon in the UK.

“As soon as we have a date, you will be the first to know!”

It's unclear whether the Dick and Angel decided to end the series or if it was canned by Channel 4 bosses.

When approached by The Sun TV, the broadcaster's Senior Commissioning Editor confirmed the news.

"Across nine series we have seen the chateau rise from its ruins into the beautiful home and venue it is today," said Clemency Green.

She continued: "We look forward to working with Two Rivers and Chateau TV to follow Dick and Angel as they turn their attentions to new projects and new adventures."

She teased that the couple would be back on our screens with a new travel series that explores France.

The news has shocked fans and they posted their upset online.

"Its great news for the next series of Escape to the Chateau, but very sad it’s the final one," said one fan.

While a third added: "Escape to the Chateau is coming to an end. Please say it’s not true."

Escape to the Chateau is available to stream now on All 4.
