Girl, 6, killed in horror smash while waiting at bus stop with her family in Germany

A driver has been arrested after a six-year-old girl was killed in a horror smash while waiting at a bus stop with her family in Germany.

The tragic incident happened in Hartha in the Free State of Saxony on the evening of Friday September 30 when the victim was waiting to get the bus back to their family home alongside her mother and two siblings.

The victim, named only as Chayenne, had been to the supermarket with her family when a speeding BMW allegedly collided with the young child and trapped her between the vehicle and a wall.

The girl died at the scene from the serious injuries she sustained.

The suspect, who is alleged to have lost his licence only three weeks earlier due to drink driving offences, is believed to have mounted the pavement after losing control of his BMW, causing the the tragedy, before trying to escape on foot following the incident. He was immediately stopped by two onlookers.

Chemnitz Police arrested the offender on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter and was being held in preventive custody. It is alleged that the accused was breathalysed by police at the time of his arrest and was measured at 1.0 per mille, which equates to around 20 times the legal limit in Germany.

The man has not been named but has been reported as a 30-year-old Hungarian man.

Family acquaintance Ute Kirsten launched an online fundraiser to raise cash to pay for Chayenne's funeral. At the time of writing, it had raised EUR 13,329.19 of its EUR 20,000 goal with 770 people donating. Soft toys and flowers have been laid at the scene of the tragedy.

Ute wrote: "After Chayenne's violent death, Chayenne's parents and siblings need strong support. The parents are absolutely exhausted and cannot yet think clearly about it.

"This fundraiser is to be used for all things that arise, such as undertakers and funerals, as well as coping with grief and therapies."
