Man denies murdering pregnant wife by pushing her from Arthur’s Seat

A husband has appeared in court accused of murdering his pregnant wife after pushing her from Edinburgh landmark Arthur’s Seat.

Kasif Anwar denied shoving Fawziyah Javed off the cliff in Holyrood Park, killing her and her unborn child, in September 2021.

Mrs Javed, from Pudsey in Leeds, was 31 years old and suffered multiple blunt force injuries during the fall.

The trial of husband Anwar, 29, began on Wednesday and he denied murder as well as a charge of behaving in a threatening and abusive way towards her the day before her death.

The couple, who met in August 2019 and married that December, checked into Edinburgh’s Residence Inn by Marriot on August 31 2021, reports the MailOnline.

The High Court in Edinburgh was told that on September 1 Anwar ‘did behave in a threatening or abusive manner which was likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear of alarm and that he did repeatedly shout at his wife’.

On September 2, he is accused of assaulting his wife and pushing her from a height.

She was ‘so severely injured’ she died there and Anwar ‘therefore murdered her’, prosecutors allege.

A post-mortem examination confirmed the cause of her death was ‘complications of multiple injuries caused by a fall from height’.

The jury was told Anwar also faced allegations of knocking his wife unconscious in a cemetery in Pudsey, and had taken £12,000 from her bank account without her consent.

He is also accused of putting a pillow over her face and repeatedly punching her in the head, and making threats to stop her divorcing him.

The trial continues.
