A mother and daughter teamed up to help Perthshire Hockey Club record yet another National League victory at the weekend.
Karen Thomson (53) and Riley Thomson (17) were both playing for the women’s first team against Edinburgh Hockey Club on Saturday.
And, impressively, they were both on the scoresheet in the 2-0 victory.
Talented Riley, also a county tennis player for the North of Scotland, opened the scoring in the capital with a penalty stroke before Karen wrapped up the points in the third quarter.
“I’ve played in the same team as Riley for four years now,” Karen revealed.
And, with a smile, she added: “It can be quite tricky. She can be very good at turning a blind eye or ear to much of what is being said!
“But she has developed her play over the years and is now independent and also the captain, which is nice to see.
"She is really developing her leadership skills and is one of many talented under-18 players within the club, supported by some more experienced players.”
Karen continued: “It was a special day for us. Riley scored from a penalty stroke and she actually assisted for me to put my goal away. I’ll be looking for another assist from her to help get my goals up!”
Perthshire have made a strong start to the National League season and sit second in the standings with a record of four wins and two losses.
Only table-toppers Dundee Wanderers can boast more points at present.
The team has a sprinkling of youth and experience which is proving to be a winning combination.
“We’re aiming for a top two or three finish for the chance to get into the Premiership,” Karen explained to the Perthshire Advertiser.
“We have such a young squad and it is about finding a balance between school hockey, Scottish hockey and club hockey.
“It has been a very positive start to the season for the team. We have very supportive parents and, as a club, we support youth development.
“There is a very positive environment in the club at the moment. It’s an extremely positive place for young and old to enjoy their hockey.”
