Parents livid after restaurant gives them a £41 fine and leaves a note about their ‘bad parenting’

FINE DINING

It's not just parents getting fined for dining at the restaurant

A FAMILY have been left furious after being charged for their 'bad parenting' in a restaurant.

When it comes to a family day out the restaurant can be the hardest bit, making sure your kids don't make a mess and don't scream the place down.

While it can be frustrating for fellow diners, one restaurant has been slammed for taking it too far.

Taking to Reddit one user shared the extra charges diners might expect such as adding an extra charge to parents who fail to control their children.

At the bottom of their drinks menu it stated: "Gratuity of 20 per cent may be added to parties over six, separate checks, birthday menu.

"Adult surcharge: for adults unable to parent $$$. Share charge $3 (£2.50).

"Be respectful to staff, property, and self. No respect, no service. No store food permitted in dining area.”

According to online reviews, the restaurant has been charging the fee for some time now — however, the recent resurfacing has now sparked a heated discussion.

“The owner came out and told me he was adding $50 to my bill because of my children’s behaviour,” one claimed.

“My kids watched a tablet until the food arrived, ate their food and my wife took them outside while I waited and paid the bill….Disappointed by the experience.”

Another added: “Don’t go if you have children.

“We were 3 adults, 2 children and our 4mo baby and since we entered to the place they gave us a bad look. Later my wife was rocking the baby (not crying, just to make him sleep) and this “manager” told her that you don’t do that in a fancy restaurant (of course this is not a fancy restaurant) and later moved our stroller in a bad way.”

“Food is not good either. Do yourself a favour…go somewhere else.”

"If you have children, absolutely avoid this place at all costs," penned a third.

"Holy moly - the most disrespectful owner made a huge scene in front of the entire restaurant because our children were ‘running through the restaurant’ - they were down by the river... we were told we need to ‘go to Burger King and Walmart’ and that we were bad parents. They have a $50 surcharge for ‘bad children’. We were a group of 21 and our server was amazing and was overly apologetic. Terrible business practice, we will never be back.”

Elsewhere on the menu it detailed cash is preferred over card, and those who don't use cash would be penalised in the form of additional charges.

It reads: “Customer notice – Prices listed on our menu reflect our cash price … we offer savings when you pay with cash.”

Fellow Reddit users were stunned by the excessive fees featured on the Georgia restaurant's menu.

One commented: "The number of red flags on this menu, I'd just go ahead and say no thanks.

"I mean, the parenting thing is one bit, but if they can't get their s**t together enough to deal with setting a price that deals with their credit card fees, and their solution is to show the cheap price and add a surcharge? If that's the case, I don't have a lot of faith in the quality of their supply lines, or in the rigour of their kitchen safety procedures.”

"If I read this at a restaurant I would probably leave. Charge for unruly kids and a "share charge $3" like who cares if I wanna share my food once I pay for it?" said another.
