Ahead of the much talked about October 10, 2023 general and presidential elections, a young Liberian in a written ‘Open Letter’ to Liberians is expressing serious concern about the legitimacy of the electoral process, Alfredo M. Gerard in his opened letter to his fellow compatriots says below:
My fellow Liberians,
As we approach Election Day comes October 10, 2023, I am writing to you today to express my concerns about the integrity of our electoral processes which have started already (the Census outcome and Voter Biometric Registration, VBR). It is no secret that there have been numerous allegations of fraud in the ongoing VBR, with many individuals and groups expressing their doubts about the fairness of the outcomes. Remember the VBR is the nucleus of the electoral process. If this is messed up, the election outcome will be a mess.
As a concerned citizen and a member of this great nation, I believe that it is our collective responsibility to ensure that the electoral process is free, fair, and transparent. It is essential that we have confidence in the electoral system, and that our elected officials are truly representative of the people’s will.
Unfortunately, recent events have raised serious doubts about the legitimacy of the electoral process. From the use of electronic voting machines to the manipulation of voter registration rolls, there have been numerous instances where the integrity of the election has been compromised. For instance, the VBR process in District 10.
It is our duty to speak out against such fraud and demand that steps be taken to ensure that our electoral process is transparent and trustworthy. We cannot allow a situation to exist where the will of the people is subverted by those who seek to manipulate the system for their own benefit.
Therefore, I urge you all to be vigilant in the upcoming election season. Be on the lookout for any signs of irregularities or manipulation, and report any such incidents to the appropriate authorities (Although the authority themselves are not trusted, the international community should be an option). Let us work together to ensure that our electoral process is fair, transparent, and reflective of the true will of the people. The current embarrassment that we are experiencing should never be repeated.
In conclusion, we must all work to preserve the integrity of our democracy. The future of our nation depends on it, and we owe it to ourselves and future generations to ensure that our electoral process is free and fair.
Let’s pray for our country..
Sincerely,
Alfredo M. Gerard
