Jamaican reggae/dancehall artiste Blvk H3ro’s debut album, On A Mission, is among 65 Reggae albums being considered for Best Reggae Album at the 66th Grammy Awards for 2024.
The artiste was previously nominated for a Grammy for Best Global Music Performance at the 65th anniversary and has slowly been gaining popularity within the reggae/dancehall and Afrobeats genres.
Speaking with Urban Islandz, Blvk H3ro, pronounced Black Hero, shares his intentions behind the new album and his reaction to being considered for Best Reggae Album.
“I set some intentions while this album was taking shape, and really that was to help me to always express my authentic self, with all my many moods, in each song. I think with all the feedback so far, that’s been the most satisfying. To hear music people say: ‘Yes, mi artist, wicked album, this sounds like you!’ That tells me that I’ve tuned into my sound a little bit better and it reminds me I’m on the right path,” he said.
Blvk H3ro added he and his team worked hard to ensure that On A Mission would be a masterpiece in consideration of the highest awards.
“It’s the same good feeling I’m having right now, with ‘On A Mission’ up for Grammy consideration for Best Reggae Album, because it was an intention we set as a team and we worked to achieve it. Pushing to create my best songs with the best producers, curating each sound, mixing, and mastering, sequencing the project, big up Leslie Cooney and Delicious Vinyl Island for all their support and guidance with this album creation process,” he said.

The artiste also shared that the last year has been life-changing since his Grammy nomination.
“It’s been a whirlwind since the Grammy nomination with Rocky Dawuni last year, recording and performing around the USA, having memorable experiences like opening for UB40 at the Royal Albert Hall in the UK, dropping my album to critical acclaim, it’s really been a movie! So, to top all that off with my album being considered for Grammy nomination is a really good feeling,” he said.
The artiste is set to perform at Cali Vibes alongside several Jamaican artistes, including Shaggy, Sean Paul, Damian, Skip, and Stephen Marley, Protoje, among others.
