Dominica and the southeastern Asia country of Vietnam have signed an agreement that gives visa exemptions for holders of diplomatic and official passports from both countries. The agreement was inked by Dominica’s Minister for Planning, Economic Development, Climate Resilience, Sustainable Development, and Renewable Energy, Vince Henderson, and Vietnamese Foreign Minister, Bui Thanh Son last Friday, September 22 on the sidelines of the ongoing 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Henderson is part of Dominica’s delegation to the UNGA.
At a working session before the signing, the two men discussed and agreed upon measures to bolster the friendship and cooperation between the two nations.
According to the Vietnam Government News, they both agreed on a “need to promote negotiations on double taxation avoidance agreement and other cooperation deals in science, technology, education, and agriculture, thus making active contributions to fostering the bilateral ties.”
For his part, Henderson said there is great importance in Dominica’s relationship with Vietnam and he expects it to grow robustly, pointing out that the visa exemption agreement is a crucial step towards bilateral relations.
The two also pledged to foster collaboration between Vietnam and CARICOM countries and between Dominica and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member states.
Dominica established diplomatic relations with Vietnam in 2013.
