Well-known Dominican journalist, Carlisle Jno Baptiste is still searching for answers from the police after his vehicle was firebombed at his home in Pointe Michel on July 9, 2023. At the time of the incident Jno. Baptiste was out of state.

Jno. Baptiste who was present at a police press briefing on Thursday said since his return to Dominica he visited the police station and has given a formal report, however, he hasn’t heard anything from the police ever since.

“My vehicle was firebombed and I am not hearing anything,” he stressed. “That too is a crime.”

He continued, “I went to the police station, I gave a formal report. I was out of state and since I came back, I did that. I was told that the report…I will sign it.”

Jno Baptiste explained that the people who were present at his home at the time of the incident also gave a report on his behalf.

“We have not seen or heard anything from anybody ever since. Absolutely nothing,” he remarked.

Meanwhile, Police Chief, Daniel Carbon who responded to the concerns raised by Jno. Baptiste advised him that if he knows anyone with information involving the matter to make it available to the police.

“Based on what you said I would want to understand that the police would want to have more information in relation to anybody you believe who would have done that,” Carbon said. “If you know somebody who has that information, you can encourage them to make the information available to the police.”

The reason behind the incident is unknown but Jno Baptiste believes it is the result of his work. He has been part of the media landscape in Dominica for over 25 years.

He has worked or contributed to various media houses including The Chronicle, state-owned DBS Radio, Q95, and Dominica News Online, among others. He presently owns his own news site Nature Isle News. Jno Baptiste is thankful that his family was not hurt in the incident.
