Catholic Engaged Encounter Dominica celebrates 40

Facilitators of the Marriage Encounter Programme

Encountered couples from across the Diocese of Roseau will converge at the St Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church in Pottersville to celebrate 40 years of ministry to families on the island. The 40th Anniversary celebration began on Sunday, September 24  with an Outreach Mass at the Grand Fond Roman Catholic Church. Following the mass, encountered couples joined the Community of Delices to celebrate World Rivers Day.

Other activities for the 40th-anniversary celebration include couples’ fun and games nights and other youth/community outreach in selected parishes of the Diocese.

Catholic Engaged Encounter is an in-depth, private, and personal marriage preparation experience. The encounter is done in the form of a weekend retreat away from home with other engaged couples or couples in a serious healthy relationship.

Since the inception of the programme in Dominica in 1983, 145 weekends have been conducted with over 1358 couples participating.

At Sunday’s Eucharistic celebration at the St Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, past presenters and pioneer couples of Catholic Engaged Encounter Dominica will be recognized. The activities on Sunday will culminate with a grand family picnic at Mero Beach. Catholic Engaged Encounter Dominica invites all encountered couples over the past 40 years and their children to participate in the activities on Sunday, October 1 at Pottersville and Mero.
