Derek M. Tavernier, son of Sherman M. Tavernier and Gertrude Tavernier was born on October 18, 1990, at the Princess Margaret Hospital in Roseau Dominica. Raised in Soufriere Dominica with his older sibling Eric Tavernier, he became engaged in church activities such as playing instruments and singing at the age of nine. He got introduced to the dancehall industry when he migrated to Antigua, and that changed his life forever.
Relocating to the US Virgin Islands gave this young artist an even wider scope of the worldwide music industry. Derek has done open performances for the likes of Donnie Mcclurkin, Fred Hammond, Jai Kingston, Chronixx & The Zinc Redemption, and many other well-known artists just to name a few. Those experiences and more helped to mold the character and musical professionalism of young Mr. Tavernier. Later on, migrating to Minnesota then New Jersey, facilitated Derek’s first close encounter with the US music market. Widely spreading his name and songs over these areas was what gave way to new opportunities in other states, mainly Florida. A few singles and features later Derek would be known as an international artist performing back and forth in the Caribbean and the US with songs like ‘Guide’, ‘Trodding’ and his new hit single ‘Clean’, off the Dub Lab International reggae album. Mr. Tavernier is now performing his brand new EP ‘UP’ which has more of an Afrobeat tempo.
Though his musical journey has taken him across the globe he never forgot his roots and in 2020 he started working with producer Michael ‘Arch Angel” Lee from the KubuliBad fraternity. To this day he has collaborated in bringing you hits like “We Need You ” on the Ghetto Voice Riddim Compilation and “Mind Trap” on the Cool Vibes Riddim Compilation. After being away from the island for a number of years he returned home to Dominica, to partner with Knutkase out of G-Rated Studio and Direction Vision out of Visionary Visuals to shoot the Cool Vibes Riddim Medley Video. Cool Vibes Riddim instrumental is the brainchild of Jacquan “Jackie Beatz” Royer. The Video features homegrown talents such as Simba Orkestra, Knutkase, Xpence, Jahrise, and Brukout. Stay tuned and look forward to more music from Derek P.D.O.Y.
