Eeshoke Chula Chula FC chairman Tamhila Ambrosius has expressed dismay at the Debmarine Premiership’s failure to communicate with the team on the postponed matches scheduled for this weekend.
Eshoke Chula Chula was preparing to engage Rundu-based Julinho Sporting FC and Otjiwarongo-based outfit Life Fighters on Saturday and Sunday, but those matches were postponed indefinitely.
Speaking to Desert Radio Ambrosius said: “ Up to now we have not received any communication from the Namibia Premier Football League administrators why the matches are postponed.”
“We have only seen and read on social media that our matches are postponed, I do not know why and how they do their business,” said the disappointed chairman.
“We heard that both Julinho Sporting Fc and Life Fighters wanted to have the matches in Oshakati at the Independence stadium and again we were not informed of that.”
“I am disappointed and heartbroken – they (NPFL) could have shifted the matches to either Grootfontein or Tsumeb where there are good facilities.”
Ambrosius added that the pressure on the Oshakati Independence Stadium will be too much as Eeshoke Chula Chula already has ten home matches scheduled for Oshakati.
Though nothing official has been communicated, the team continues training and will this weekend travel to Grootfontein to play Eleven Warriors and to Tsumeb to lock horns with Touch and Go FC in friendly matches.
“People are really hungry for good football entertainment and having a team in the Debmarine Premiership is a positive development for the growth of football in the north and the need to have prioritized infrastructure development,” emphasized Ambrosius.
He said that Chula Chula is from the Ohangwena region and that he is confident that the regional council is looking into having a football stadium so that the team can have their home matches in their region.
Ambrosius further said the team will continue training hard, pushing further to deliver positive results to the supporters, in the hope of remaining in the elite league come the next season.
Meanwhile, asked about the postponed matches NPFL’s administrator Mabos Vries refuted those claims saying that all clubs were informed and given the fixtures.
“The matches were postponed because the playing field was not available even though sources claim that both Julinho Sporting FC and Life Fighters FC wanted to have their matches in Oshakati,” he said.
* Eeshoke Chula Chula’s name is attributed to a war cry – “To tyuulwa keeshoke.” The okutyuulwa was ‘anglicised’ to chulachula. Oshoke/eeshoke is a tall grass species that grows in the Omuthitu area and has sharp spikes that prick. The grass is common around Eeshoke village. Its spikes have been the cause of loss of sight to grazing cattle in the area, while the spikes can also prick humans who walk carelessly around such grass.
