THE Landless People’s Movement (LPM) has to pay former employee Paul Thomas N$90 000 for unfair dismissal and the arbitrary suspension of his salary in June last year.
The two parties on Friday agreed to settle the dispute brought to the Office of the Labour Commissioner in August 2022.
According to the settlement agreement, the LPM will pay Thomas N$90 000 in three consecutive instalments, of which the first will be paid on 30 September.
“The Landless People’s Movement reserves the right to settle the amount sooner than the agreed three-month period,” the agreement states.
Thomas was dismissed from his position as LPM party administrator and assistant to party parliamentarians in June last year.
He instituted proceedings with the Office of the Labour Commissioner in which he claimed he was unfairly dismissed.
The LPM initially opposed the legal proceedings and expelled Thomas from the party.
However, the party has now agreed to pay Thomas.
